MCKINNEY, TEXAS – September 12, 2023 – In honor of National Honey Month, Nature Nate’s Honey Co., the number-one branded honey company in the U.S. and producer of 100% pure honey, continues its partnership with a donation to the University of Texas at Dallas to support bee health, sustainability and the protection of pollinators. In a years-long partnership, Nate’s and UT Dallas have encouraged a commitment to sustainably steward land and resources and contribute research for the protection of pollinators today and in the future.

“With a shared vision to protect and take care of honey bees and hives, we are deeply proud of our long partnership with UT Dallas,” said Nathan Sheets, President and CEO of Nate’s. “By investing in UT Dallas’ research, projects and hands-on approach to educate our next generation about the benefits of sustainable and responsible beekeeping practices, we are working for a world where bees are healthy and thriving.”

UT Dallas’ sustainability efforts are among the best in the country for universities, investing in higher education that goes beyond the classroom and land that serves to protect the native habitat. UT Dallas offers pollinator-based curriculum, sponsors service projects, has developed a Campus Pollinator Habitat Plan and hosts annual awareness events.

UTD has also developed eight acres on campus into a no-mow zone to encourage the growth of native prairie grasses and pollinator-friendly plant species. Known as a Bee Campus USA Affiliate, UTD has planted flora that is breeding grounds and food sources for native pollinators, supporting their crucial role in maintaining flowering and food-producing plants.

“If you can protect one species of insect, it will have a benefit for others,” said Dr. Scott Rippel, Professor of Instruction, Biology Department, UT Dallas. “It becomes a synergistic effect. We have planted butterfly bushes on campus that are just covered with Monarchs as they migrate. But those bushes are also a source of nectar for honey bees. It comes down to habitat. If you have the right habitat, build it and they will come.”

Nate’s partnership with UT Dallas is part of its Long Live the Bees corporate responsibility initiative to support honey bee health, educate future generations of students and advocate for responsible and sustainable beekeeping practices. Nate’s also supports honey bee health programs at other leading universities across the U.S.
