What’s the difference between New Zealand and Australian Manuka Honey?

While Australian manuka honey may also have benefits, it isn’t as well-researched and regulated. New Zealand Manuka comes only from the leptosperum scoparium plant, commonly known as the Manuka plant, while Australian manuka can come from any plant in the leptosperum species. Since research studies tend to focus on New Zealand manuka, it isn’t appropriate to extend that research to Australian manuka. Also, the New Zealand government certifies Manuka’s source, and as discussed in our UMFTM certification blog, the UMF Honey Association certifies only monofloral New Zealand Manuka honey.

Nate’s provides consumers with only the highest-quality honey, so it was imperative Nate’s Manuka honey be sourced from New Zealand and UMFTM certified.
