FRISCO, TX – January 16, 2018 – National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), is proud to announce its inaugural Women of Hope Awards luncheon featuring Lillie D. Shockney, a two-time breast cancer survivor and Director of the Johns Hopkins Breast Center and the Director of the cancer survivorship programs at the Johns Hopkins Cancer Center, as its keynote speaker. The luncheon, with Presenting Sponsor Nature Nate’s Honey Co., will take place on Thursday, May 10th at Verona Villa in Frisco.


To be considered for the 2018 Women of Hope Awards, the nominated women must have provided significant leadership and contribution to the North Texas community throughout her career and live or work in Collin or Denton county. The five nomination categories are: Advocate of the Year, Caregiver of the Year, Courage/Survivor of the Year, Medical Professional of the Year, and Legacy/Family of the Year. Lillie D. Shockney, a two-time breast cancer survivor, has worked tirelessly to improve the care of breast cancer patients around the world. She began her career in 1983 with Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland and is trained as a registered nurse and a breast cancer patient navigator.

In 2008, the Johns Hopkins Board of Trustees appointed her to a chair as a University Distinguished Service Assistant Professor of Breast Cancer. This is the first time in the history of the institution that a hospital nurse has been appointed to a distinguished service designation. She was later promoted to Associate Professor in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. In 2011, she accepted the inaugural role as Director of the cancer survivorship programs for the Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins and was selected by Johnson & Johnson to receive their “Amazing Nurse” of the year award. In 2016 she was promoted to Professor of Surgery & Oncology, becoming the first nurse in the country to become a full professor in any academic school of medicine.
