Empowered to Lead, Be Creative, & Empower Others
When you pull Nature Nate’s 100% Pure, Raw, & Unfiltered Honey off the shelf or add it to your cart, there is an amazing story behind that bottle. The people, the processes, and of course the bees behind each drizzle of honey make our bright orange label shine. We build trust with our consumers, teammates, and partners by exceeding expectations and evolving what it means to be a honey and food brand. And it starts earlier than you might know with our supply chain team and goes well beyond honey in ways you might not expect.
Meet Lindsey, Director of Supply Chain.
Q: How would you describe your role on the Nature Nate’s team?
My role is the gatekeeper. My team and I joke about being the queen bees of the Nature Nate’s hive, because everything predominantly runs and feeds through supply chain before flowing to the other teams to do their work. We house all orders, manage purchases and transportation, and schedule everything from raw materials to packaging. We also team up with the quality assurance team to ensure our products meet our strict standards, work with the innovation and marketing teams to launch new products, and collaborate with the sales and finance teams for demand planning.
I love that every day is different. Things are constantly changing and evolving, and we’re trusted to take care of the business, as well as the relationships that enable us to be the branded leader in the honey category. In nearly 13 years in supply chain, I’ve never worked for a food manufacturer or been part of a team that is as exceptional as Nature Nate’s.
Q: As a company, we strive to be leaders, whether in honey, on our team, or in our community. How do you see yourself contributing to these high standards?
Typically, in the Supply Chain world at my level, roles are held by men. This has been changing during the last 3 to 5 years, and I am trying to get more involved in the empowerment movements of women in manufacturing and women in supply chain. In 2019, I was named among Top Women in Grocery from Progressive Grocer, and it opened up new connections for me that enabled me to be more active in making a difference.
The empowerment movements are more important than ever, and at Nature Nate’s, we have an amazing culture that encourages me and women in our company to be leaders. We have so many women in higher roles than any other company I’ve worked for, and I believe this sets us apart from some other manufacturing companies.
It has truly been a blessing to get the opportunities I have received here at Nature Nate’s. The company believes in me and my growth, and I’m recognized and valued for the work I do and the ideas and suggestions I bring to the table. That’s powerful.
Q: The Nature Nate’s family implements a set of core values called the Bee Attitudes. Is there a specific attitude you strive to implement?
During the last year and a half as we managed through the COVID pandemic, Bee Creative has been the value I connect with most. My team and I have had to think outside the box to get more product on the shelf and do so without sacrificing the quality we’re so proud of at Nature Nate’s.
Supply chain is 3-4 months ahead and contracting a year before our bottles hit retailer shelves. We had to be nimble and figure out how to source and schedule raw materials and packaging, how to transport our product to retailers, and how to fill the increased demand of our existing and new consumers. Our amazing team was able to overcome so many challenges and accomplish meeting the new demand.
I strive to continue that creativity – both for myself and fostering it within my team, who has as many great ideas as I do. I may be the manager, but I have one of the best teams. I lean on them to bring suggestions and ideas that make Nature Nate’s better.
Q: What is something you want people to know about Nature Nate’s that they might not know from just looking at our orange label?
The pride that we take in producing every bottle cannot be compared. From the testing and blend, to inspecting every bottle and wiping each one down by hand as it comes off the line, our leadership instills pride in every team member, and Nate instills it in us.
We carry that pride in how we treat our employees, our beekeepers, and our vendors. We take time to build healthy relationships, and in caring for others, they care for us. It’s how we were able to achieve so much in the pandemic. Our people inside Nature Nate’s and collaborations with our vendors – we all worked together to really come through for Nature Nate’s when it was needed, and that really comes down to our culture. We believe in each other and the product, and we want to make sure every consumer has an amazing experience.
